Lana del Rey Drawing

Video streaming by Ustream

Thank you all for visiting my channel during these sporadic drawing sessions. I draw whenever I get a chance and I've really enjoyed it. My comfort is graphite. When I first started taking art in high school it's what I fell in love with. I always wanted to learn to paint to but it's not the same to me. What I love about drawing is trying to get all of the details in the expression and the control I have over the values and lines. (painting is the opposite, i try to be more loose and natural with my brush strokes)

This series is coming to an end and will be posted in my shop (coming soon)

San Antonio Trippin

This past weekend Michelangelo met my parents and siblings for the first time. We are so happy to have been able to spend a little time with everyone. My sister Gladys flew in from California and I am sooo extremely happy that my whole family (all seven of us) were in the same city! This little boy had a blast with all the attention he was getting from everyone. It made me happy to finally be able to share this part of me with them. It must be so weird to see me as a mom. My sister Berenice kept saying "you're a mommy!" :)

After the second plane ride we arrived in San Antonio. We entered baggage claim and I saw my brother and uncle right away. I couldn't believe how different and grown my little brother was. Vito has always wanted to be the first to know anything about the baby; through out my pregnancy, birth and now, so I was sure he would be there to pick us up. When we got to the house my sister and brother greeted us outside. I was still a bit in shock to be there. It didn't quite sink in right away.
My sister Gladys holding my sunshine.
Oh yea, did I mention he crawls now?! :)

Milo and I at my dad's ranch for Vito's birthday.
The weather in S.A. was beautiful. We lucked out and got a bit of warmth for a few days. It's nice to be out and enjoy some fresh air. (I need to get out more). My little cousins were running and yelling and being kids. I remember when they were just babies and I baby-sat each of them. I wondered if they remembered me. They were constantly coming over to look at Michelangelo.

5o'clock shadow at 16!?! Where did my little brother go?
My brother Juan and his beautiful girl friend Becky. They're too cute! <3
My sisters and my mom taking instagram pics.
My sis Berenice and brother Vito. He has cake on his face from someone (me, oops) pushing him into the cake my mom baked him.
Out in the park enjoying some soy ceviche.

Milo and his Abuelita.

Johnjo (Juan) working on his project car outside in the dark. That boy loves motors.

Later (after obviously working on his car) he brought out this Pentax film camera. His girl friend's grandmother gave it to him. <3
I had no idea we had film photography in common! I think I should send him a couple of cameras that I have in the back room.
Milo and his Abuelito.
Although our vacation was very short it was also very emotional and exciting. I don't want Milo to forget the new faces he met. (Thank goodness for skype and technology). Next time we will be there for at least a few more days but until then my sisters are planning a visit to our house in the spring time. I wish, with all my heart, that I was closer than an airplane ride from them. It is difficult to be so far and not see them for so long. I can't let years go by without seeing them again.

We'll be back San Antonio. Treat them well.

Polaroids, Fujiroids and Fun

A couple of weeks ago my little family ventured out to take some pictures with the Crown. I love this camera. I keep saying it was meant for me. I feel like I was meant for it.

I used the last of the old expired Polaroid film that I light-leaked accidentally during a swap from a camera to the holder. The effect was pretty awesome in the first picture. I like the way it came out. The "normal" colored pictures are on FP 100c. (You can purchase some here.)

Picture shot by KG.
You can see some of KG's work here. I love that man.

Whenever a picture comes out too dark i use the negative by bleaching the black matted [back] part of the neg and scanning
it in my Epson scanner. Just make sure to wait at least 20 minutes for the negative to dry after taking the picture. You can use
spray cleaner with bleach because it's somewhat diluted. Don't use pure bleach. The result is a lot lighter than the printed picture.

This past week we baptized Milo and invited family and friends to come to our house. He had lots of fun and had enough energy to go around. It was nice to see everyone that we haven't really been able to spend time with. Milo met many relatives that had not seen him yet. I still can't believe how quickly 6 months have gone by. He is such a lucky boy with so many people who love and cherish him so much.

October is the month when Milo started moving around on his own. He scoots [almost] crawling.
At first he was frustrated. He got used to me holding him up as he moved his little feet across the house. He gets so excited to see things that way and be independent. Scooting has made him realize that he can be sneaky and grab things we usually take away from him. i make sure his weight isn't on his legs though.

Below is a screen-shot of a video I took of Michelangelo and I. This has been us the past few weeks.
and boy I'm tired. How adorable is he in that Batman outfit?

I will be posting more often *i promise* I'm anxious to post some charcoal things I've been working on and my newest oil painting. Thank you so much for stopping by.

Inside My Moleskine

This week I drew on the last page of my current Moleskine Sketchbook (which means i need a new one...hehehe) I think I will get a toned paper sketchbook and a cream colored one like this one. I love this book. It's special. The "before and after" of my mommyhood. I think I'm ready for big drawings again. Along with the paintings I have in mind, there are lots of ideas I want to shoot for and possibly draw. I'll have to set up some shoots. yay! i love shooting. I think it all kind of goes in a circle. My sketches inspire me to take pictures for references which lead to paintings which lead to more shooting ideas.
I'm a whirlwind lately.

Anyway, I have been posting my sketches on instagram and I've noticed a pattern. I've been drawing a lot of me. :) I guess it's just easier. I can take references and choose my lighting. But feel free to offer me your pics. And thanks for following along if you are on there ♥

"Nebula", Oils on canvas 24x18.

I never thought that I could do this with oils; the colors and the contrast. I thought only acrylics could correctly represent the neons that exist in the lovely pictures of outer space. I feel like I created neon.
That's amazing to me! My inspiration was the "Eta Carina Nebula" (which is much more beautiful than my painting, granted). I am still amazed at what I've created. It's like all this time I was keeping my self from growing and becoming better. "Just do it" it really is that easy. If you don't then what's the point. :)

This painting is a new me. It represents the possibilities that are. I know that my life will be what I make it. It's time to do what I love.

Above is the finished piece with detailed shots and below are pictures of my process as shown in my instagram feed. This has been the most fun painting I've done yet and I look forward to doing more with similar subjects. I've always been fascinated with the deep sea and outer space. The mystery that they hold pull me in. It takes me to my youth where things were more beautiful and less stressful.

Life is bigger. Much bigger.

I want to live on this landscape of colors. This is my favorite mix of paint so far.

Raw idea. The original sketch in my moleskine.

This is a painting that I did a few years back. It felt like dejavu as I realized that i had this idea lingering inside me
without me knowing. It gave me chills when I noticed that it looks like the front view of my new painting.
As my face surfaces through the deep dark space, I took a "look" at my future.
Now I see that as foreshadowing what my life is now, what my universe holds.
I encourage you to open your self up, to do something positive that makes you smile. <3
